The Berry Sparklers dance team out-danced other middle school and junior high schools from around the state to take first place in the hip hop category at the recent National Dance Alliance Bama Spirit State Championship.

The competition, which was held on February 17, featured middle school, junior high, and high school teams from around the state. In addition to hip hop, dance teams also competed in categories including jazz, kick, and pom.

Dance team sponsor Ms. Lee said she was proud of the hard work and teamwork her girls put into preparing for the competition.

"If you've ever heard the saying 'We gave everything we had and left it on the dance floor,' this team definitely did that. They enthusiasm and drive to win definitely showed," Ms. Lee said. "As a coach it is awesome to hear your team name called for first place. It's what you've been working for, and the cherry on top was seeing my dancer's faces when they received their award."

The members of the Berry Sparklers are Cadon B., Jadah B., Ayre C., Makayla H., Iqra L., Mia M., Kayla M., Olivia S., Sabrina T., and Mary Ashlee W.
